Please note that this is an apprenticeship position and therefore anyone with more than six months professional experience working as a software tester or who holds an ISTQB foundation certificate will not be eligible.
You will also need to commit to completing a Level 4 Software Testing Apprenticeship.

They specialise in smart, internet connected inverters and battery systems that allow customers to store their renewable/cheap-rate energy for any-time consumption. GivEnergy Software is one of the most critical components of their operation who are a key factor in their innovation.
Reporting to the Senior Test Engineer, this role will play a key part in the development of a smart and scalable platform which will support the innovation in software development to ensure GivEnergy remain ahead of the market and can deliver on their mission to empower energy freedom for all! You will be working across all elements of their stack to produce the best control software and reporting systems possible for their inverter, battery & EV charging systems.
The Software Tester Apprenticeship is designed to give you ownership of your career aspirations, supported by training and practical experience to help you succeed. You will be part of our Software Development team who will support and guide you throughout your career with us.
Through hands-on experiences, you'll learn the tools, techniques, and approaches employed by testing professionals, with the capability to apply them in a controlled environment.

What will you learn with GivEnergy Software?
You will have the chance to work alongside software developers, testers and also work closely with industry experts to help upskill and train you. Here are some of the key areas you focus on:
- Understanding the difference between "Testing" and "Quality Assurance".
- How to use different testing tools and techniques.

- Conform to industry standards for things like GDPR.
- How to write clear and concise documentation.
What will your day-to-day role look like?
- Working with the senior team analysing requirements, building test plans, and testing new features.
- Working with & enabling the expert user community.
- Analyse issues raised and feeding back to the team.
Throughout your tenure in GivEnergy Software, we will emphasize key areas, including:
- Various software testing types.
- Software testing levels.
- Risk-based testing.
- Manual testing.
- Utilisation of tools supporting processes and frameworks.
- Crafting clear and concise documentation.
Additional information: Please note, whilst testing our products there will be the requirement to move and lift hardware such as batteries, inverters and EV chargers and manual handling training will be given.
Essential Qualifications:
- 7 GCSE’s (or equivalent) at grades 9-4 or A-C including Maths and English
- 3 A Levels (or equivalent) at grades A-C in any subject but preferably one in a numerical or computing subject (e.g. Maths, Science, Computer Science etc)
Applications will also be considered from graduates with non-computer science degrees looking for an apprenticeship route to a development career.
Salary: £20k - £25k (dependant on education and skills)
Location: Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, ST5 9HX
Please note – this role is office based and the successful candidate will need to commit to attending our office for 5 days per week.

Training to be provided: As part of the Level 4 Software Tester apprenticeship standard, you’ll be registered as a member with the British Computer Society and be on a fast track to an industry recognised qualification and your dedicated industry coach will support you through a blended approach that will include remote, in person, 1-2-1 and group learning.
