We are partnering with a global investment platform focused on healthcare, life sciences, and biotech innovation. Backed by a leading international family group, the platform invests across venture funds, early-stage companies, and high-impact academic research programmes.
This is a unique opportunity for a recent PhD to transition from academia into investing, working at the intersection of science, AI, and early-stage innovation. You will join a small, high-performing team with exposure to both investment activity and translational research initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Support screening and evaluation of venture funds and early-stage healthcare and biotech companies
- Conduct scientific, technical, and early commercial assessment of investment opportunities
- Assist in assessing and tracking academic research grants with strong translational potential
- Contribute to investment execution, including due diligence, analysis, and portfolio monitoring
- Build and maintain deal flow through conferences, university networks, and industry events
- Prepare investment memos, portfolio updates, and internal reporting for senior stakeholders
- Engage with founders, academics, VCs, and partners as a representative of the platform
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify strategic partnership opportunities
- Support ongoing portfolio management and sector research initiatives
Requirements:
- PhD (completed or near completion) in life sciences, biomedical sciences, bioengineering, or a related field
- Strong scientific grounding with the ability to analyse data and interpret research
- Interest in AI, machine learning, or computational approaches in healthcare is advantageous
- Clear interest in innovation, venture capital, and translating research into real-world impact
- Ability to critically assess scientific literature and communicate complex ideas clearly
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams
- Collaborative mindset with experience working in team environments
- Commercial curiosity and willingness to learn investment concepts (e.g. term sheets, fund structures)
- Prior exposure to VC, tech transfer, or innovation environments is beneficial but not required
