Applications are invited for an exciting vacancy for a yearlong Discipline-Specific Internship in the Surgery Service commencing May 2026. You will be working as part of Southfields surgery team formed by three ECVS Diplomates, one post Residency senior clinician, one resident and one intern.
We are an outgoing and friendly team, who is looking for enthusiastic hard-working interns who are willing to be part of the expanding Soft Tissue and Orthopaedic Surgical Service at Southfields. Surgical interns have an important role within the Service, as they are considered more like first year residents and they are allowed to manage their patients.

Southfields is a large multi-disciplinary veterinary hospital in Essex, UK, with multiple diplomate specialists in different areas such as Diagnostic Imaging, Neurology, Surgery, Anaesthesia, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Radiation Therapy and Ophthalmology. We are only 30 mins away from central London but also close to beautiful countryside and sandy beaches. There are excellent transport links to Europe and beyond via Stansted, London City and Gatwick airports as well as the Eurostar.
This is an exciting time to join our large multi-disciplinary veterinary team in our 40,000 sq. ft, state-of-the-art veterinary referral hospital, with sixteen consulting rooms, cross-sectional imaging machines (Siemens Magnetom Sola 1.5T MRI and Siemens 64-slice CT) and a High-precision Varian TrueBeam® radiotherapy system with integral CT scanner. Our equipment and facilities include seven fully equipped theatres with minimally invasive instruments (Storz arthroscopy and laparoscopy equipment) and a C-arm. Also, we have fully equipped orthopaedic and soft tissue instrumentation including vessel sealing devices such as Ligasure and Enseal devices and Piezotome bone cutter device.

Your role and responsibilities
The responsibilities in the position include:
- Assisting surgery case management and patient care.
- Supervised responsibility for all cases (including assisting in surgeries).
- Client and referring vet communication.
- Contribution to our active research programme through clinical research projects.
- In addition to day-to-day clinical duties, you will also participate in an out of hours on-call rota.

Salary Value: £38,100 per annum;
