Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Gate Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in the installation, maintenance, and repair of automated gates, barriers, and access control systems.
Duties
- Install various types of automated gates, including sliding, swing, bi-fold, and telescopic gates and conduct regular maintenance checks to ensure gates and access control systems are functioning efficiently and safely.
- Set up access control systems such as intercoms, keypads, card readers, and biometric systems.
- Perform electrical wiring and programming to ensure the automation and control systems operate correctly.
- Diagnose issues with gate operations, such as motor malfunctions, electrical problems, or mechanical faults.
- Repair or replace defective components, cables, and control systems.
- Identify and repair worn-out or faulty parts, including motors, hydraulics, and control boards.
- Perform safety checks to ensure systems comply with health and safety regulations, including any security standards required for the specific type of gate.
- Complete service reports and documentation for all work carried out.
- Explain the operation and maintenance requirements of the installed systems to clients
Technical Skills
- Electrical knowledge: Understanding of electrical systems, wiring, circuits, and safety protocols.
- Mechanical aptitude: Ability to work with motors, actuators, and other mechanical components.
- Access control systems: Familiarity with installing and configuring keypads, card readers, intercoms, biometric scanners, and remote controls.
- Automation and control systems: Knowledge of how electric gates are automated using control boards, sensors, and programming.
- Low-voltage wiring: Experience with low-voltage installations, as access control systems often require low-voltage power.
- CCTV and security integration: Ability to integrate gates and access control with CCTV and other security systems.
- Troubleshooting and repair: The ability to diagnose and fix issues with electric gates, motors, and access control systems.
- Networking and IP systems: For modern systems that are networked or IP-based, understanding networking and connectivity is desirable.
2. Safety and Compliance
- Health and safety awareness: Understanding of safe working practices and compliance with electrical and building regulations.
- Knowledge of relevant codes and standards: Compliance with local or national safety regulations, including gate safety and electrical codes.
3. Problem-Solving Skills
- Diagnostic skills: Ability to troubleshoot and repair faults quickly and effectively.
- Adaptability: Skill to adjust to different types of installations and tailor solutions to individual client needs.
