Job Summary
As a Routesetter with Movement, you’ll be joining a collaborative, innovative, and passionate team of setters to develop high-quality, safe, and engaging climbs for our community. This opportunity is for a creative and hard-working individual with some setting experience, either through Movement's Routesetting Apprenticeship Program or other setting environment. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Setting or Head Routesetter of your home gym, you’ll be responsible for managing the workflow of your day in an efficient and productive manner.
F4 Routesetter: Experienced Routesetter. Specialize in high-quality routesetting tailored to community needs, delivering tweakable skeletons, and fulfilling designated assignments.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Prepare setting area (boundaries, fixed lines, etc.).
- Strip wall sections to prepare for new routes/problems.
- Set high quality skeletons (first draft of a climb) on all types of terrain.
- Maintain tidy setting area throughout the day, and help clean the area at the end of the day.
- Adhere to and promote workplace safety expectations (Work at Height standards, etc.)
- Forerunning
- Climb product to help the routesetting team grade the routes/problems that are set each day.
- Be open to feedback and willing to perform as directed.
- Your climbing will help the setting team ensure all routes and problems are safe, can be executed in a manner that is appropriate for the assigned grade, and that are accessible to a wide range of customers.
- Lead the routesetting team through modified day-to-day setting operations in the absence of the Head Routesetter.
- Additional tasks and projects may be assigned, including but not limited to: assist anchor/safety inspections, setting of boards and training equipment, setting for and participation in activations, customer engagement, or attendance of Routesetting department meetings.
What Success Looks Like
- You’re reliably setting high quality skeletons, forerunning, and grading routes/problems effectively.
- You’re able to operate independently, with some guidance on new assignments.
- You’ve demonstrated efficiency and creativity, with an openness to constructive feedback from fellow team members and the Movement community.
- You are able to provide supportive and constructive feedback on other's routesetting.
- You have an understanding of Movement’s quality of product and aesthetic standards.
- You consistently meet production quota for routes and boulders on all terrain types.
What You’ll Bring With You
- Solid setting experience (2+ years).
- Demonstrated efficiency and reliability as a part of a setting team.
- Strong understanding of workplace safety expectations (Work at Height standards, etc.).
- Passion for the craft of routesetting.
- Ability to thrive in a team-oriented and collaborative environment.
- Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to manage own workflow.
- The ability to communicate effectively and empathetically – communication is your jam and you do well with constructive feedback.
- The ability to follow and promote safe practices at all times.
- Lead climbing proficiency
- Ability to climb at least 5.12 and/or V6

Additional Details
- This role is based in Boulder – applicants will be assigned this primary location but may have opportunities to support other locations as agreed upon.
- This is a full-time position.
- Starting pay at $23.00/hour, flexibility available based on experience.

- Internal candidates who apply should be in excellent standing with their current director/management team.
- New hires will complete a screening process.
- Scheduled shift times may vary from week to week or month to month.
