Optimum Skills are proud to be working closely with a multitude of Plasterers, who are looking to recruit reliable Apprentices from the Newcastle Area, who have completed the pre-requisite work preparation training through Optimum Skills. Joining a company that provides building services you will be learning all of the required skills to become a bricklayer. You will also be learning other related useful skills to help you become successful in this trade.
Main Responsibilities:
- Surface Preparation: Assist in preparing surfaces for plastering by cleaning, sanding, and applying bonding agents to ensure proper adhesion of plaster.
- Mixing Plaster: Learn to mix plaster and other materials to the correct consistency, ensuring it is suitable for application.
- Plaster Application: Assist in applying plaster to walls, ceilings, and other surfaces using trowels and other specialized tools to achieve smooth and even finishes.
- Skimming and Rendering: Help apply finishing coats (skimming) to achieve a smooth surface or apply render to external walls for durability and protection.
- Repair and Patching: Assist in repairing damaged plaster surfaces, filling cracks, and patching holes or imperfections in walls or ceilings.
- Applying Decorative Plastering: Learn how to apply decorative plaster finishes, such as moulding, coving, or textured coatings.
- Tool Use and Maintenance: Use and maintain plastering tools and equipment, including trowels, float boards, and mixing machines, ensuring they are kept in good condition.
- Measuring and Marking: Help with the accurate measurement and marking of walls, ceilings, and surfaces to ensure precise application of plaster.
- Health and Safety: Follow all health and safety procedures, including wearing appropriate protective gear, ensuring a safe working environment on site.
- Tidying and Cleaning: Ensure that the work area is kept clean and tidy by removing excess plaster, cleaning tools, and disposing of waste materials.
- Assisting with Mixing and Preparing Materials: Support the mixing of plaster and other materials required for specific plastering tasks, such as bonding or finishing.
- Client Interaction: Interact professionally with clients and other tradespeople on-site, ensuring work meets the client’s requirements and is completed on time.
Additional Responsibilities (as training progresses):
- Work on more advanced plastering tasks, such as applying intricate decorative features or working with specialist plaster types (e.g., lime plaster).
- Take responsibility for smaller projects or assist in overseeing the plastering on larger jobs.
- Begin to develop skills for more independent work as proficiency in techniques increases.
