An, exciting, two-year fixed term role has been created within HEIW to develop as a translator.
There is an increasing demand for translating different materials into Welsh. As a member of the team, you will deal with this demand as well as receive guidance, support, and mentorship from HEIW’s Welsh Language Team to provide a specialist translation service from English to Welsh and Welsh to English. The post holder will assist in the day-to-day operational work of the team which will include liaison with staff across HEIW.
The work is varied and interesting, as we translate a wide range of content varying from web-page content, information leaflets for staff and students, publicity campaigns, job descriptions, national workforce plans and much more.
THIS POSITION IS A FIXED-TERM CONTRACT OF 2 YEARS DUE TO THE NATURE OF THE TRAINING.
An exciting role has arisen (as a result of an internal promotion) at HEIW to develop as a translator and to gain a MA Astudiaethau Cyfieithu Proffesiynol qualification.
There is an increasing demand for the translation of different materials into Welsh. As a member of the team, you will deal with this demand as well as receive guidance, support and mentoring from the HEIW Welsh Language Services Team. This will be for the benefit of providing a specialist translation service from English to Welsh and from Welsh to English. The post holder will assist with the day to day operational work of the team which will include liaising with staff across HEIW. There will also be an opportunity to develop specialist skills as an Interpreter, if you so wish. The aim is that you will develop your skills over the period to be able to apply for a Band 5 translator role within the organisation. You don't need previous translation experience, just high standard skills in Welsh and English as well as enthusiasm for translation, passion for words and motivation.
One day a week will be hosted by Aberystwyth University (online or in person) who will be responsible for the qualification. You will receive help from other colleagues who are already following the course, as well as receiving training from the University and from the team at HEIW.
The ability to speak Welsh is essential for this post.
