We are currently seeking to recruit an Automotive Technical Assessor for Apprenticeships to join the Mercedes-Benz Apprenticeship Programme delivery team based in Milton Keynes.
The Apprenticeship Programme is responsible for the development of hundreds of apprentices across the Mercedes-Benz Car and Van retail networks in the UK.

Purpose of Job
Working as a part of a larger delivery and assessment team, the Automotive Technical Assessor for Apprenticeships will be responsible for undertaking regular scheduled assessment of apprentice technical skills, expertise, and knowledge. You’ll be performing assessments according to a pre-defined assessment process, aligned to the apprenticeship standard.
Assessments will be undertaken at the Mercedes-Benz Training Academy in Milton Keynes and will include technical skills observations, professional discussions, and online knowledge tests.
Each assessment will provide the Academy with a measure of apprentice progress against expected levels. Assessment outcomes will be used by the wider delivery team, including Trainers, to develop apprentice support plans where progress is behind expected levels.
Qualifications & Experience
- Qualified Technician at Level 3 (EHV certification desirable)
- Teaching qualification/experience (PTLLS, DTLLS, PGCE, TAP, Cert Ed or NVQ equivalent qualification desirable) – training can be provided
- Apprenticeship Assessment experience such as an EPA Assessor (highly desirable)
- Full Driving License (desirable)
- Relevant Health & Safety Qualification (desirable)
- First Aid at Work Qualification (desirable)
- Safeguarding, Prevent and Equality & Diversity training (desirable)
- Recent manufacturer workshop experience (desirable)
- Strong awareness of new automotive technologies and innovation, including electric vehicles (EV qualification, desirable)
- Competent/experienced in using MS software packages
- Excellent communicator (verbal and written)

Key Responsibilities:
- Set up and deliver skills and knowledge assessments in line with Mercedes-Benz assessment processes and standards
- Provide effective and constructive feedback to apprentices, and their employer, in line with the guidance and processes defined by Mercedes-Benz
- Report assessment outcomes in a clear way (in line with agreed reporting) and in a timely manner, ensuring that all key stakeholders, including Trainers, Development Coaches and Training Coordinators have the information that they need to support each apprentice, especially where the apprentice does not reach the expected level
- Maintain quality, standardisation and processes in line with Mercedes-Benz requirement
- Prepare the learning environment and resources (including setting up the workshop vehicles with training faults)
- Track, measure and monitor learner progression, working with the wider team (including Trainers, Development Coaches and Training Coordinators) to provide stretch, and additional support as required
- Ensure that professional development is maintained and attend relevant updates sessions as instructed, and required by the role
- Use all resources in an approved, safe and efficient manner
- Promote a positive culture and promote the brand in everything that you do
- Ensure all of the training adheres to Health and Safety standards, Safeguarding and Prevent
- Act as an ambassador for the Apprenticeship Programme, proactively demonstrating good practice and the brand values
- Assist with development of new training material as required
- Provide occasional support with training delivery
- Observe all Mercedes-Benz policies and procedures, as well as Ofsted, ESFA, and EPAO requirements
- All other administrative, delivery, and assessment activities as required by Mercedes-Benz

Milton Keynes. On the rare occasion, there will also be times when it may be necessary to work from alternative locations such as (but not limited to) Calex offices, alternative facilities and retailers, and other sites as necessary to perform the role.

Calex will undertake the relevant/standard employment checks with any successful candidate. This includes contacting all nominated references, as well as checking candidate ID, driving licence (if appropriate) and right to work in the UK. Some roles may also be subject to further pre-employment checks (confirmation will be provided through the recruitment process). This nature if this role will necessitate that we undertake an Enhanced DBS with Children’s Barred List check. We will also perform checks of applicant social media accounts.
