Apprentice - Wagons
Freightliner Heavy Haul Ltd – Manchester VMF (Guide Bridge)
A vacancy has arisen for an Apprentice Wagon Fitter to join our team at our Manchester Vehicle Maintenance Facility in Guide Bridge. Activities will be centred around the in-depth maintenance of a wide range of rail freight vehicles capable of transporting all types of cargo, from containerised to bulk freight, for one of the UKs leading Rail Freight Companies.
The successful applicant will undertake a Level 3 Advanced Modern Apprenticeship in Engineering Maintenance, leading to nationally recognised qualification and accreditation as a Maintenance & Operations Engineering Technician.
Responsibilities include:
- Complete the apprenticeship programme, including all necessary documentation toward the NVQ portfolio of evidence, leading to attainment of Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Engineering Maintenance
- Comply with all Statutory Regulations and Freightliner company instructions
- Ensure all Personnel Protective equipment (PPE) is maintained in a serviceable condition and is worn when required.
- To become proficient in the application of Health & Safety Rules governing the working environment
- To become proficient in:
- the use of hand & machine tools
- carrying out fault diagnosis on engineering systems
- using and interpreting engineering data and documentation
- communicating and recording engineering information to ensure accurate reporting
- undertaking scheduled maintenance tasks in line with company vehicle maintenance instructions
Requirements:

- Demonstrable interest in engineering
The successful candidate will be employed on a fixed term contract basis for the duration of the apprenticeship programme.
Working hours will be 40 hours per week Monday to Friday.
