John Murphy & Company Ltd are looking for a Junior Electrician / Electrical Apprentice to join our growing team. This entry level position is an excellent opportunity for a newly qualified electrician (NVQ Level 2 or 3 or equivalent) who wants to gain hands on experience in electrical installation, maintenance and repair while working alongside experienced engineers. You will work closely with one of our Senior Engineers, learning on the job and developing your skills across a wide range of electrical and mechanical systems.
Our projects are mainly based within schools, leisure centres and local authority buildings, providing varied and interesting work within a supportive team environment.
What You'll Be Doing
- Assisting with electrical installations and maintenance
- Supporting EICR testing and reporting
- Installing and maintaining emergency lighting
- Assisting with data cabling installations
- Supporting HVAC installation and servicing
- Completing job reports using our tablet based job tracking system
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who:
- Holds or is currently working towards a NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 in Electrical Installation (or equivalent)
- Is motivated to learn and eager to develop their skills
- Enjoys problem solving and practical work
- Takes pride in delivering high quality work
- Is comfortable using tablet devices and digital job systems
- Is physically fit and happy working in a hands on environment
- Is willing to work during school holidays and occasional bank holidays/Saturdays
- Can pass an Enhanced DBS check
While you will be driven around in a company van by one of our senior engineers during the working day, you must be able to regularly travel to meet them or attend our Slough office. If you do not live locally or do not have access to your own transport, please consider whether this will be possible before applying.
Pay & Development
- Starting salary will be in line with National Minimum Wage / National Living Wage for your age, typically ranging between £20,000 - £25,000 depending on qualifications and experience, with regular pay reviews as your skills develop.
- Immediate training will be provided in workplace skills such as Manual Handling, Asbestos Awareness and Working at Height.
- You will initially shadow a Senior Engineer for a minimum of 12 months, with further training and development opportunities discussed based on your progress and interests.

John Murphy & Company Ltd is a family run commercial gas, building services and maintenance company based in Slough. We are a small team of around 15-20 staff, offering a hands on and fast paced working environment.
We carry out a wide range of commercial maintenance and installation works, primarily for local councils, schools and leisure centres. Most of our work is located within 10 miles of our Slough office, with typical service areas including Slough, Windsor, Maidenhead, Bracknell and Reading.
