Summary
This position is responsible for learning how to install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures in commercial and industrial facilities / locations. Work must be performed in accordance with blueprints, wiring diagrams and applicable electrical codes and safety standards.
Primary Responsibilities
- Learn and apply electrical theory and terminology through enrollment in our company apprenticeship program
- Learn, develop, and apply the practices, methods, tools, materials, and equipment of the electrician’s trade
- Understand and apply all job-related instructions, training materials, and technical documents, which are provided in English. Use of agreed-upon translation methods or accommodation may be permitted to ensure safe and effective job performance.
- Learn how to use critical thinking skills and develop the ability to accurately diagnose and correct electrical related problems.
- Learn and adhere to all state and local electrical codes
- Learn and adhere to all National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements
- Learn and adhere to the safety precautions related to occupational hazards of the electrician’s trade.
- Read and draw simple electrical drawings.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and other technical documents.
- Accurately distinguish and identify color-coded electrical wires, as required by the National Electrical Code (NEC) and industry safety standards, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Assist a skilled electrician by supplying materials, equipment, and tools at the job site
- Participate as a trainee in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of wiring electrical systems, light fixtures, and other electrical equipment
- Participate in installing electrical conduit and pulling wires/cables adhering to required quality, efficiency, and proficiency standards
- Use and operate a variety of tools and equipment such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment including ohmmeters, volt meters, and ammeters
- Install and connect power and control wiring to electrical equipment and motors
- Comply with all company, customer and OSHA safety requirements
- Promote and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with OSHA, company and customer safety regulations.
- Perform physically demanding work, including but not limited to lifting 50 pounds, bending, kneeling, crawling, climbing, and working in confined spaces, extreme temperatures, noisy or dusty environments, and adverse weather conditions, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Due to the safety-sensitive nature of this role, employment is contingent on the successful completion of pre-employment screenings, including but not limited to a background check (per FCRA requirements), drug screening, and post-offer, job-related medical evaluations (e.g., hearing and color-vision assessments) that are necessary for safely performing essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Represent and promote the company in a positive and professional manner in all interactions and job-related travel.
- Work overtime, weekends, nights, and holidays as needed.
- Travel to job sites, which may include overnight stays, up to 75% of the time.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Specifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
- Must be able to take and pass classes regarding electrical trades, electrical codes, safety programs, and others deemed necessary for the Electrical Apprenticeship Program.
- Must know and follow practices, methods, tools, materials, and equipment of the electrician’s trade
- Must be knowledgeable of occupational hazards and follow OSHA requirements of the electrician’s trade and necessary safety precautions
- Must demonstrate knowledge of and compliance with state, local and NEC electrical codes
- Able to reliably distinguish and identify standard electrical wire colors (e.g., black, red, blue, brown, white, gray, green, yellow) in compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and safety regulations. This is considered an essential function of the position and must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Able to comprehend and apply job-related instructions and materials in English, with or without reasonable accommodation or through an approved translation method, as required for safe and effective job performance. Basic proficiency in reading, writing, and arithmetic is required.
- Able to accurately diagnose and correct electrical issues using critical thinking and appropriate test equipment.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, including active listening and the ability to present information to a variety of audiences.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions independently.
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
- Ability to adjust, shift focus, change direction to appropriately fit situational changes, changed project dynamics, delays and resource limitations in a professional manner with little or no advance notice.
- Understands OSHA safety standards and best practices in electrical safety. Must complete and maintain all required safety and compliance training.
- Able to work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
- Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the role, with or without reasonable accommodation, including but not limited to:
- Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds
- Bending, kneeling, squatting, stooping, crawling, climbing, pushing, pulling, balancing, and reaching overhead
- Working in confined spaces, at elevated heights, and in various environmental conditions (hot, cold, dusty, dirty, noisy, fumes present, etc.)
- Standing, sitting, and moving for extended periods
- Working in environments with typical noise levels of 80–95 dBA (PPE provided as needed)
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, nights, and/or holidays as needed.
- Ability to travel to job sites, including overnight stays, at least 75% of the time.
- Consistently deliver results in alignment with company policies and applicable safety, health, and equal opportunity regulations.
NOTICE
Continuing employment will depend upon satisfactory progress and completion of a prescribed four-year apprenticeship training program, during which the progress of the apprentice is periodically evaluated - employment may be terminated if the apprentice does not progress satisfactorily in either apprenticeship training or performance on the job.
