POSITION: Training Manager (Apprenticeships and Training)
RESPONSIBILITY FOR: Apprentices
DURATION OF POST: Initial 12-month contract – subject to funding
HOURS: 37.5 hours per week YG’s core business hours are Monday-Friday 9-5.30pm, however due to the nature and pressing need of our work all YG staff may be required to complete work outside of these hours. This role will include working hours between 4 – 7pm.
SALARY: £30,000 - £33,000 per annum pro rata
HOLIDAY: 25 days per annum plus bank holidays
PENSION: Auto enrolment pension in place
RESPONSIBLE TO: Education and Development Senior Manager
LOCATION: Your normal place of work will be one of the following offices. The Old Dock Office, Commercial Road, Glos, GL1 2EB, Graphic House, Greyfriars, Glos, GL1 1TS but you agree to perform your duties in such other places as we may reasonably require from time to time.

JOB SUMMARY
This role works in partnership with the training team to deliver high-quality apprenticeship provision (Initially Youth Work and Management), including teaching, learning, and assessment in line with curriculum and apprenticeship standards. Responsibilities include assessing learners, developing individual learning plans, tracking progress, and ensuring timely achievement. You’ll conduct regular reviews with apprentices and employers, offer guidance, and act as the main point of contact for employer queries and feedback.
You will also ensure accurate, compliant documentation to support ILR and funding claims, promote safeguarding and inclusion, and maintain audit-ready learner records. Active participation in quality assurance, standardisation, and professional development activities.
In addition, you will support wider training within Young Gloucestershire
DUTIES
o Deliver effective teaching (in person and virtual), learning and assessment sessions in line with curriculum requirements
o Assess apprentices in the workplace and through online platforms, providing constructive feedback and setting targets for progress
o Develop individual learning plans to support the diverse needs of apprentices
o Monitor and record learner progress against apprenticeship standards and qualifications
o Ensure timely achievement of learners through robust planning, tracking and intervention
o Conduct regular reviews with apprentices and employers to assess progress and provide guidance
o Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with employers to support engagement, learner placement and programme quality
o Act as the primary contact for employers, addressing queries, gathering feedback and ensuring employer satisfaction
o Ensure all employer-related documentation is accurate, compliant and submitted on time
o Support monthly ILR and funding claims by ensuring all paperwork, learner records and evidence are complete and audit-ready
o Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion throughout all aspects of delivery
o Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in accordance with quality assurance and compliance requirements
o Participate in standardisation, quality improvement and professional development activities
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
o Managing staff and volunteer teams to undertake their roles and achieve outcomes.
o Provide regular supervision and support to staff teams, including safeguarding support.
o To consult with funders, commissioners, and key personnel to manage programmers and projects.
o To undertake reflective and best practice sessions with staff and volunteers to enable development and continuous improvement.
o To raise the profile of the programmes to ensure young people are referred and professionals are aware of the services offered.
o To attend meetings with funders, partners, and agencies across Gloucestershire to ensure we meet the needs of young people.
o To ensure a high-quality service is always delivered to young people by your team and wider staff.
o Assist in the development and delivery of additional funded projects that support and engage young people.
o To ensure all programme SLAs are met.
o Collect and review delivery data ensuring we are meeting KPI’s and project outcomes.
o Work within budgets as agreed with the line manager.
o Take responsibility for the health, safety, and welfare of learners. Produce risk assessments as required and ensure safeguarding.
o Ensure that risk assessments and the health and safety of all programmes and staff roles within programmes are managed.
o Keep up to date with current affairs and maintain an awareness of resources that may be of benefit to Young Gloucestershire.
o Ensure servicing and maintenance of equipment as appropriate to your role.
o Maintain a teamwork approach to all aspects of work.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
The following are the criteria that will be used for shortlisting:
o A JNC recognised qualification in working with children and young people.
o Assessors or IQA qualification
o Experience of working with young people
o Able to provide leadership in a challenging environment.
o Experience of managing multiple tasks
o Experience of managing staff teams
o Experience in planning, organising, and completing community-based projects.
o Knowledge of the local community, voluntary organisations, and agencies
o Experience of delivering services to young people in groups and one to one
o Experience of managing health and safety including completing risk assessments
o Experience of motivating and inspiring disaffected young people to achieve their potential.
o Knowledge of Safeguarding practices and procedures
o Experience of working in mental health
o Experience of sourcing and building relationships with key partners and stakeholders from the VCS, statutory and business sectors
o Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with people at all levels.
o Excellent organisational and administrative skills
o Good written and verbal communication skills and the proven ability to draft reports and deliver presentations to a variety of audiences.
o Effective time management, including the ability to prioritise and manage a varied workload.
o The ability to work on your own initiative and to an agreed action plan.
o Basic IT skills including experience of Microsoft Office programmes and databases.
