Then progressing on to work with our Shunter Operators, learning forklift operations, trailer movements and general yard duties. As a Shunter Operator, you will drive works vehicles with a variety of attachments; ensure safe and secure loading and unloading of HGV trailers; assist HGV Drivers; and move trailers around site using Terberg unit, keeping the yards and loading areas functioning efficiently. This will ensure that the essential skills for becoming an HGV Driver are established early on and it will allow you to gain an insight to what will be required as an HGV Driver.\n\nFollowing a period of shunting duties, training will begin for the Modern Apprenticeship. During which support will be given to obtain the required HGV medical, provisional licence and theory tests. This is a progressive training position where a car licence is required. It is expected to take around 6-12 months to complete before moving on to the role of HGV Driver.
