About the role
It is important that where centres and students believe they have valid grounds that they can have their concerns considered in detail through the appeals process. The Appeals Team processes appeals from centres and private candidates in relation to marking/moderation, malpractice and reasonable adjustments/special consideration cases. Members of the team make the preliminary appeal decisions and ensure these are communicated to appellants within the agreed service level. The team also arranges appeal hearings, manages regulatory data returns and responds to regulatory requests for information about escalated cases.
The role will offer the opportunity to gain:
- an understanding of the end-to-end appeals process, the regulations related to appeals and the JCQ agreed approach to appeals;
- experience of processing all types of appeals and making appeal decisions (with supervision) that can be communicated to centres/private candidates;
- experience of arranging appeal hearings and working with independent panel members;
- experience of ensuring accurate and complete records are maintained for appeals to support any further scrutiny by regulators;
- experience in developing accurate and clear communications of outcomes for a range of stakeholders.
Key requirements
- Final year student pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in any subject.
- Excellent written English skills with proven ability to convey complex messages with clarity and accuracy.
- The ability to analyse and synthesise large amounts of information including regulations and related requirements.
- The ability to make well-reasoned decisions that stand up to challenge and scrutiny.
- Highly organised, detail focused and able to work independently to complete an assigned case load.
- Expected to be in the office 2 to 3x a week on specific days.

This is a 10-week internship programme, commencing Monday 16th June 2025 . You will be paid for the duration of your internship at a pro-rata salary of £27,007.50
