Programme Description

What does this team do?

Our teams ensure that we manage our business with integrity. This includes developing and managing risk, anti-money laundering, addressing any conflicts of interest amongst clients and maintaining our independence from them. We also make sure we’re compliant with regulations and that we manage the security of our people.

An apprenticeship here will give you the chance to work across risk and security teams within the business, so that you can make an informed decision about your future career. We do not expect you to have prior experience or understanding of risk or security, as this will be taught on the job. Instead we look for an interest in business and a desire to learn. Your time will be spent gaining experience and finding out more about key areas of our business, such as:

Client and Engagement Acceptance: We help to risk assess clients and make key decisions around taking on new clients and engagements. This ensures we do not work with people or businesses who may negatively impact our brand or our social values.

Personal and Firm Independence: We manage our regulatory requirements when it comes to Independence to ensure we, and our people, comply accordingly.

Deloitte Business Security: We help protect our business from security threats. You will learn about cybersecurity, data protection, crisis management, physical security, vetting and much more.

Conflicts Management: We work with engagement teams to understand where our work may present conflicts of interest with other ongoing work, recommending mitigations and solutions.

What skills and academic qualifications do I need?

Qualifications required – Minimum of five GCSEs, including at least a level 4 (C) in English Language and Maths.

Our analysts come from a wide range of backgrounds, sometimes with little or no prior experience of financial services. What connects us is our enquiring minds and our ability to deliver a great service. Recognising that this is an entry level role with no prior quality and risk experience required, useful skills may include:

Excellent research and analysis skills combined with good judgement and effective decision-making capability.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and an ability to interact with people at all levels across our business.

An attention to detail to maintain high professional standards with a focus on quality and confidentiality.

An ability to follow defined processes while thinking outside of those boundaries, making reasoned decisions and communicating them with confidence.

Ability to be flexible and multi-task. This is a dynamic role and you’ll be working on multiple, often complex, cases at the same time.

Ability to manage and adapt to regular changes.

A good level of IT user ability, including database entry, and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office software. Training time will be allowed for adaptation to in-house IT tools.

Work experience or study in compliance/regulation or accounting/financial services/risk management would be advantageous.

Customer service experience and skills.

What kind of work will I do?

This role offers the opportunity to work in a challenging and rewarding environment within QRS Services in Cardiff.

Specific responsibilities can include:

Researching and performing analysis, typically using IT based tools.

Working with internal customers, from practitioners to partners, providing robust technical advice.

Reviewing and refreshing information held on existing clients and maintaining our systems of quality control.

Looking for opportunities for process improvement, then implementing.

Working effectively in diverse teams within an inclusive team culture, where people are recognised for their contribution.

Contributing to ad-hoc project work supporting risk management and regulatory compliance within the UK.

What’s in it for me?

Joining on this programme, you’ll be working alongside other like-minded colleagues. At the beginning, you will be part of an induction programme, where you will learn a range of skills to help you become ready and feel confident working with our clients.

To complete this apprenticeship, you will need to be based in Wales and travel a minimum of one day a week to Cardiff & Vale College, here you will be studying towards a Level 3 Apprenticeship in Business Administration. You will also be required to be in the Deloitte office at least one day a week.

You’ll also receive continued support and training with your team, as well as mentoring and a dedicated buddy who will be assigned to you. You’ll receive robust tech and home workstation set-up guidance, as well as access to a variety of flexible working spaces and all sorts of social activities for you to join. Over time, you’ll have the chance to specialise in a particular area of interest and develop into a true subject matter expert with bespoke training.
