The Modern Apprentice Revenues and Benefits will be based in the Council’s Revenues and Benefits Team within Finance Services located at the Council Office Headquarters, 8 North Ness Business Park, Lerwick.
Every property in Shetland is in receipt of at least one ‘Council’ bill issued by Revenues - be it a Council Tax bill, a Non Domestic Rates bill, Council Invoice or Rent letter. In total the team collects over £100 million of charges.
Benefits process claims for Council Tax Reduction, Housing Benefit, Community Care Grants and Crisis Grants. Benefits deals with over 1546 claimants, with over £2.1m of benefit paid to the most disadvantaged members of the Shetland community.
Consequently, the Revenues and Benefits Team plays a key role in the operation of Finance Services as for many people the Revenues and Benefits office is the first, and sometimes only, point of contact with the Council.
The Modern Apprentice Revenues and Benefits will receive support and training covering all areas of the Revenues and Benefits function.
