Apprenticeship Summary
Reports to: Chief of Staff & Talent Acquisition Manager
Destination DC (DDC) seeks two highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals to join our immersive apprenticeship program. This unique opportunity will provide hands-on work experience in various aspects of destination marketing and management.
Our Goals for You:
This program is designed to achieve three key objectives:
- Drive Business to D.C.: Contribute to the growth of Washington, D.C. as a premier destination by supporting initiatives that attract visitors and generate economic impact.
- Increase Your Capacity: Develop your skills and knowledge in destination marketing, event planning, and strategic communications.
- Foster Community: Become an active member of the DDC community and build lasting relationships with industry professionals.
Your Role:
As an apprentice, you'll rotate through different departments to gain a comprehensive understanding of DDC's operations:
- Executive Office: Dive deep into the strategic direction of DDC, including budget management, stakeholder relations, and overall organizational operations.
- Partnerships & Alliances: Learn the art of building and maintaining strong relationships with key industry partners, such as hotels, restaurants, and attractions.
- Convention Sales & Services: Learn about the convention sales process, from generating leads to negotiating contracts, client engagement and executing successful events.
- Tourism, Sports, and Visitor Experience: Gain insights into promoting tourism, sports events, and enhancing the visitor experience in Washington, D.C.
- Marketing & Communications: Assist with developing and implementing effective marketing and communications strategies, including social media, public relations, and digital marketing.
Beyond the Rotations:
- Attend regular company-wide and departmental meetings.
- Contribute to general department duties as needed.
Apprenticeship Specifics:
Duration
- January 13, 2025 -July 10, 2025
- You must be available 28 hours per week; 4 days/week in-person, Mondays - Fridays.
- Hours worked must be within the parameters of Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5pm EST to coincide with the operational hours of the office.
Work Environment
This Apprentice is expected in the office 4 days a week (Monday-Thursday). Apprentice will follow Destination DC's policies for staff and may work hybrid, coming into the office at a minimum of four days a week and as determined by supervisor. . Apprentice must have reliable internet to work remotely. Destination DC issues a work computer to be used for the duration of the apprenticeship.
What You Bring: Experience, Competencies, Knowledge
- Must be a resident of Washington D.C.
- Early career professional with experience in hospitality, tourism, marketing, communications, or a related field preferred (including internship experience).
- Demonstrated proficiency with technology; Microsoft Office Suite and Zoom.
- Exceptional customer service and business etiquette skills.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated interest in the travel and tourism economy.
- Enthusiasm for Washington, DC.
