Is an Apprenticeship right for you?
To help you decide if an apprenticeship is right for you, we have outlined the main eligibility criteria below.
- You must not already be in full time education at the point of the apprenticeship start date.
- You must not have already achieved a similar or higher-level qualification in the apprenticeship role you have applied for. For example, if you have a degree in Engineering, you will not be eligible to apply for an Engineering apprenticeship. However, you could apply for another apprenticeship in a different profession, such as Finance.
Apprenticeship role responsibilities
We are recruiting an Electric Vehicle Charging Apprentice to join our Transport planning and Development Team. You’ll undertake a two-year defined programme in which you will contribute to the development and delivery of Electrical Vehicle Charging Infrastructure (EVCI) and Advice to Local Authorities across Wales. You will study towards a nationally recognised qualification in Level 3 Energy & Carbon Management, with one of our trusted apprenticeship delivery partners.
- Provide support to TfW’s Local Authority Electric Vehicle Account Manager by providing information to enable local authorities and the private sector to deliver Wales’ EV charging network.
- Support the development of innovative solutions including new business models, commercial arrangements and technologies by collaborating with managers to improve the quality of experience for customers and remove barriers to delivering charging infrastructure, as directed by their manager.
- Support the team in engagement with Charge Point Operators (CPOs) by attending events and meetings to optimise the delivery of the preferred network and foster public-private sector collaboration.
- Assist in securing the support of stakeholders by actively engaging with them on adhering to the Welsh Government’s National Charging Standards, Chargesafe and the adoption of other EV charging national standards such as 2023 UK Charge point Regulations.

You will also have
- 5 GCSEs A-C including, Maths, English and Science
- Demonstrate an interest and a desire to pursue a career in the technical aspects of transport decarbonisation.
- Ability to follow directions and take initiative when required.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office software including Microsoft Word and Excel.
Welsh Language Skills
The ability to speak/write Welsh would make a great addition to your application, but it is not essential for this role.
Transport for Wales supports and promotes the use of the Welsh Language by employees and will encourage them to develop, improve and maintain their Welsh Language skills. We fully support our people who want to improve their Welsh language skills, and personal development for Welsh Language skills are offered in a variety of ways such as online learning, classroom courses and funding attendance at local community courses.
