Time: 8 weeks – extendable to 12 weeks

37.5hrs/ week.

Internship can be stand-alone, but our company is growing, and objective is to recruit full time member of team post summer internship.

Problem: Homes are still built the same way they were 50 years ago, and we are in the midst of a housing crisis. Viability of housing delivery is challenged, and not enough stock is being delivered. Architect firms are hiring less than ever before. Nothing will change unless housing delivery is rethought from first principals.

Kingsford Group (https://www.kingsfordgroup.com) has been at the forefront of Flex office and BTR development in Scotland.

To address the problem above Kingsford have developed a new net zero affordable modular housing solution under brand Kingsford Modular. Focussed on PBSA, BTR but our “near passive” system is flexible enough and can deploy into hospitality, staff or military or temporary housing. Having successfully got consent for our 2-module studio unit and 75% built the unit as a “Living lab” in the garden of our build to rent community Kingsford Residence, we are now moving into getting the unit finished and into testing and iterating further improvements and efficiencies to our designs as we learn. We are also seeking our first larger scale site and actively running design and commercial appraisals on site prospects in Edinburgh.

We are building a new modular division and team and seeking an architectural intern who “thinks differently” with high productivity and commercially minded. To solve housing viability and affordability issues, we need to challenge the way homes are delivered and that includes challenging everything from design, planning, build, procurement, energy and water use and carbon impact design.

What you'll be doing,

· You'll help with delivery of the prototype and testing/certification.

· You'll help with new site appraisals.

· You'll be in the carbon analysis to drive the net zero mission.

· You’ll be reviewing new construction materials, cladding systems, innovations, foundation options, battery and renewable systems.

· Helping prepare renders, 3D visuals and planning presentations to “sell the vision”.

We'd love to hear from you if,

· Part 2 in Architecture or Architectural Technology, will also consider Engineers who share the vision and you're looking for something that isn't a traditional practice.

· You know Revit, AutoCAD, BIM, Grasshopper, Rhinoceros 3D (Rhino), Autodesk Revit, Unreal Engine and SketchUp.

· You're in Edinburgh or willing to be for the duration of internship.
