Police Domestic Abuse Advocate (Internally known as Police DAA)
Location: Worthing Police Station
Salary: £14,035pa (£28,070pa FTE)
Permanent, Part Time ( 20 hours across Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings)

THE ROLE:
Police Domestic Abuse Advocates are part of a team providing practical and emotional support at the point of crisis to individuals and families experiencing domestic abuse. The Police Domestic Abuse Advocate will work in partnership with Police officers to provide a pro-active, short-term crisis intervention as part of the Paragon West Sussex service. The role holder will work across a variety of hours including out of hour’s providing face to face response to incidents of domestic abuse alongside police response teams As well as initial contact they will process onward referrals to ensure clients are referred into appropriate long term support as required.
PERSON SPECIFICATION

Health & Social Care qualification equivalent to NVQ level 3 or equivalent work level experience

Experience of working with people experiencing domestic abuse, whether in a paid or voluntary capacity

Experience of working with other agencies in partnership, whether statutory or voluntary

Knowledge and understanding of domestic abuse including the impact of domestic abuse on victims and their children

Knowledge and understanding of civil and criminal justice remedies for victims of domestic abuse and their children

Knowledge and understanding of child protection issues, and the legal responsibilities surrounding these issues
-
Knowledge and understanding of the principles of risk assessment and safety planning for victims of domestic abuse and their children

Knowledge and understanding of and commitment to equal opportunities and diversity issues in policy and practice

Excellent negotiation and communication skills that put people at ease

Excellent computer literacy skills and experience of working with databases

Proven crisis management skills and the ability to deal with stressful and difficult situations

Ability to be person centred, trustworthy, flexible and solution focused

Ability to maintain safe working practices and understand impact of self on others

Ability to travel locally, and occasionally cross county.

Ability to work flexible hours
Please note: due to the nature of the post all applicants must have access to their own vehicle and possess a full, clean UK driving licence.
