Teaching Personnel are recruiting graduates for a Graduate Teaching Internship starting this September in secondary schools across Rochdale.
This is a paid, full-time, term-time role designed for graduates who are considering a career in teaching but want meaningful classroom experience before committing to a PGCE or other teacher training route. The internship runs for the academic year and provides a clear, supported introduction to working in schools.
You will be placed in one Rochdale secondary school for the duration of the placement, working alongside experienced teaching staff. The role focuses on building classroom confidence, behaviour management skills and a realistic understanding of the teaching profession. Many graduates who complete this internship progress directly into teacher training the following year.
The role will involve:
- Supporting lessons across KS3 and KS4
- Supervising classes during short-term teacher absence using pre-set work
- Working with pupils on a one-to-one and small-group basis
- Developing confidence managing behaviour and classroom routines
- Gaining an insight into how secondary schools operate day to day
There is no expectation for full lesson planning or marking.
This opportunity is suited to graduates who:
- Are completing their degree or have recently graduated
- Are seriously considering secondary teaching as a long-term career
- Are confident, professional and able to engage young people
- Want school-based experience before applying for teacher training
Experience working with young people is beneficial but not essential.
What’s offered:
- A paid, full-time placement for the academic year
- A consistent placement in one school rather than day-to-day supply
- Ongoing support from Teaching Personnel and the host school
- Strong preparation for PGCE, SCITT or salaried teacher training routes
Placements begin in September and are based in Rochdale and surrounding Greater Manchester schools.
If you’re a graduate who wants to enter teaching with the right experience and a clear understanding of the role, this internship provides a strong foundation.
