Apprentice Electrician – Commercial Building Maintenance – JLL
What this job involves: As an Apprentice Electrician at JLL, you will support the safe operation, maintenance, and reliability of electrical systems within a Class B commercial real estate property. Working under the direct supervision of a Journeyman Electrician, this role provides hands-on exposure to commercial electrical systems while building foundational skills required for long-term growth in the electrical trade. Your work will help ensure tenant comfort, operational continuity, and compliance with safety and regulatory standards across the property.
What your day-to-day will look like:
- Assist with troubleshooting and repairing electrical systems including lighting, receptacles, panels, motors, and low-voltage components.
- Support preventive maintenance activities such as inspections, lighting replacements, and testing of emergency and safety systems.
- Help maintain and organize electrical panels, circuits, breakers, and distribution equipment under supervision.
- Perform basic electrical installations and repairs as directed, including switches, outlets, fixtures, and wiring.
- Work in various building areas such as electrical rooms, mechanical rooms, rooftops, riser closets, and tenant spaces.
- Document completed work and maintenance activities in the work order or maintenance management system.
- Follow safety protocols including lockout/tagout procedures and proper use of PPE.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Enrollment in, or willingness to enroll in, an electrical apprenticeship program.
- Valid apprentice electrician license if required by local jurisdiction.
- 0–2 years of electrical, facilities, or maintenance-related experience.
- Basic understanding of electrical safety practices and use of hand tools.
- Ability to follow instructions, safety procedures, and work under supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in commercial building maintenance or facilities environments.
- Familiarity with electrical panels, lighting systems, and basic circuit troubleshooting.
- Exposure to reading blueprints, wiring diagrams, or equipment schematics.
- Working knowledge of OSHA safety standards and National Electrical Code (NEC) fundamentals.
- Strong communication skills and customer-service mindset when interacting with tenants and team members.
- Valid driver’s license.
Location: Houston, TX
Work Shift: 6:00 am to 3:00 pm Monday to Friday.
