We are recruiting an experienced geotechnical laboratory technician for an immediate start in our laboratory based in Mid Sussex.

We are committed to delivering first class solutions to our clients and are looking for a motivated individual to join our team as a Trainee Geotechnical Laboratory Technician. The role is to be based in our laboratory in Burgess Hill, West Sussex.
Job Description: As a Trainee Geotechnical Laboratory Technician, you will be responsible for assisting with the preparation and testing of soil, rock, and other materials. This role is ideal for someone looking to start their career in geotechnical engineering and gain hands-on experience in a laboratory setting. Tests will include a wide range of analysis including moisture content, liquid and plastic limits, particle size distribution by sieving and hydrometer, bulk density, saturated moisture content, soil suction, triaxial testing, thermal resistivity, and more as we expand the range of analysis. There may also be the opportunity to work on sites conducting field tests such as CBR’s, Wenner resistivity and soakage testing, as well as groundwater and gas monitoring. The role represents an excellent opportunity to start a career in geotechnical engineering, ground investigation, and materials testing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation and testing of soil, rock, and other materials.
- Following established methods and standards
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment.
- Record and present test data.
- Perform quality control checks.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with health and safety regulations.
- Support senior technicians and engineers with various tasks.
Requirements:
- A keen interest in geotechnical engineering and laboratory work.
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills.
- Basic knowledge of laboratory equipment and procedures is a plus, but not essential as training will be provided.
- No requirement for a driving licence, but advantageous.
