As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Trade Apprentice, Electrician, or Electrician Specialist depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).

TRADE APPRENTICEStarting salary is $16.06 / hourly.

ELECTRICIAN - Class "D" Chauffeurs License will be required upon Appointment. Starting salary is $19.67 / hourly.

ELECTRICIAN SPECIALIST - Class "D" Chauffeurs License will be required upon Appointment. Starting salary is $21.05 / hourly.

No Civil Service test score is required in order to be considered for this vacancy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

No Experience Or Training Is Required.

Job Concepts

Function Of Work:

To assist a journeyman level tradesman and to learn the trade by on-the-job training or formal instruction as prescribed by the employing agency.

Level Of Work:

Entry.

Supervision Received:

Close from a journeyman level tradesman or assigned instructor.

Supervision Exercised:

None

Location of Work:

May be used by all agencies; statewide.

Job Distinctions:

Differs from other entry or basic maintenance jobs by the performance of work directly subordinate to skilled tradesmen with the goal of preparing the incumbent for journeyman level status.

Differs from the journeyman level because it does not independently perform journeyman work in any trade.

Examples of Work

50% Performs routine electrical repair of electrical devices including motors, starters, panel boxes, switches, air conditioners, bearings, generators, relays and other electrical equipment that are part of the DOTD

30% Maintains movable bridges including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and control systems. Diagnose and troubleshoot the moveable bridge control systems (interlock systems).

I 0% Performs electrical system installation for minor remodeling and renovation work. This includes the review of existing loads, suitability of panel boxes and provide feedback to others who may be upgrading our systems. Ensures compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local building code for all work performed.

5% Installs different type of voltage transformers and may be required to adjust voltage of agency owned transformers. Troubleshoots shoots and open circuits in wiring, motors and emergency generators.

5% May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
