Reporting to the Corporate Safety Director and VP of Georgia Branch, the Safety Manager is responsible for the oversight and execution of safety efforts at various projects in the field. This includes conducting safety inspections/audits, tracking, and implementing jobs-specific site safety plans, providing onsite training for field employees, meeting with project managers to discuss safety issues, preparing reports on project safety and audits, coordinating emergency management efforts, and occasionally assisting with claims.
Responsibilities
- Conduct documented jobsite safety inspections and communicate with project managers, field supervisors, and other employees regarding hazards, exposures & corrective actions required to maintain a safe jobsite.
- Attend various jobsite safety huddles to provide coaching and guidance as needed to the foreman and ensure that safety huddles are being conducted effectively. Counsel field supervisors and employees on safe work practices as needed.
- Interview field workers, fostering relationships and asking the right questions to identify safety risks, opportunities to improve, and assess safety competencies. Document safety efforts (identified risks, corrective actions, preventative steps taken, complete best practices, coordinated efforts with GC and other crafts.)
- Keeps management team abreast of significant issues or developments identified during safety and quality activities, as well as corrective/preventative actions that are taken to assure continuous process improvement. Serve as liaison and representative of the company, communicating safety issues to other craft leadership, superintendents and/or GC’s.
- Maintain professional relationship with employees, safety representatives, the safety and health community in the area, and project management. Work with operations leaders during pre-construction activities to ensure safe execution of work. Monitor Subcontractor compliance with safety rules & regulations.
- Support incident response, assisting with emergency protocol, investigations, root cause analysis and documentation. Conduct and document incident investigations and provide corrective actions as needed to prevent future occurrences.
- Develop and conduct jobsite training on safety techniques in the field and in the office. Assist with safety orientation of new employees.
- Liaise with Fleet Department to ensure all vehicle and equipment documentary safety requirements are completed.
- Provide analysis and trends on safety criteria to management.
- Be a key player in deployment and enhancement of EHS monitoring tool.
- Liaise with Training and HR to ensure required courses are completed by employees.
Qualifications
- College graduate or completion of state approved apprenticeship program in the construction industry or equivalent education/work experience
- Five or more years progressive experience in the construction industry
- 5+ years in Safety related position
- OSHA 500 Construction Outreach Trainer
- Recognized certification as a Safety Professional i.e., CSP, ASP, CHST, or pursue and obtain within 2 years.
- Must have clean driving record and able to be on our insurance.

- Strong critical thinking and logic skills to conduct investigations and root cause analysis.

- Ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
- Exceptional people management and development skills
- Working knowledge of construction process including scheduling, contract administration, equipment, manpower, etc.
- Expert knowledge of building products, construction details and relevant rules, regulations, and quality standards.
- Proficient in OSHA, DOT, MUTCD & NFPA 70E, and DOT work zone safety regulations.
- Experience working with Electrical, Excavation, Cranes & Derricks contractors.
- Proficient with computers, tablets, smart phones, Microsoft Office, and other technology skills.
- Experience with EHS software
